Hi.

I’m Maureen, the Pocket Gardener!

Episode Two: Bob Bounds

Episode Two: Bob Bounds

Episode two is finally here and we hope it was worth the wait!  I had the pleasure of interviewing a Garrett County local, Bob Bounds.

I met Bob a few years ago when we worked together on a project for Lisa Jan and the MoonShadow Cafe.  Here are a few pictures we were able to dig up.  So many great memories came flooding back from our time working together.

Intro to the Episode:

Hello everyone and welcome to Coffee on the Mountain, stories and events from Mountain Maryland. I’m your host Maureen Myers and thank you so much for joining us today for Episode 2. Its a new year and new episode.

Since I moved to Garrett County I have been constantly inspired by the people I meet and the ecosystem around me. I have a large passion for jumping right into a project, and sometimes ideas get picked up and put down, but never totally forgotten.  My projects have always been a way for me to discover, unearth, expand, and play and this podcast in particular is a way to explore what people want to share about their own story.  Coffee on the Mountain continues to evolve like all things in life, and It has taken a little while to understand what I wanted to do with this project.   We're learning as we go and I’ve just been thrilled to have feedback of people willing and interested to talk to me and let me record their stories to share them with all of you.

My guest for this episode was non other than Bob Bounds.  Bob is a long time resident of Garrett county.  I met Bob a few years ago when we were working on a construction project together, and he has since then become a good friend and advisor.  Our conversation wasn’t exactly what I expected, but I came out with more than I could have imagined.

Bob is originally from Laurel, Maryland, but has lived in Garrett County for about the last 30 years.  Bob has a few years on me and a therefore a lot of experiences for me to learn from.  He and I lead very different paths, and I have so much respect for him and the life he has created for himself here in Garrett County, which is one reason I was so excited he accepted my invitation to sit with me for this episode.

We have some differences on the political spectrum, but we both share a respect for the land and the people around us.  One of my personal interests in starting this podcast was to learn more about my neighbors here in Garrett County that live off of their land, and sustain their families by growing their own food or hunting.  Some people are born and raised with these traditions, and others have moved here searching for more opportunities to do this.  Bob’s story is a little bit about hunting, but mostly about what Garrett County and its residents have meant to Bob.  We started with how Bob came to visit the area when he was younger.
