Welcome!

I’m Maureen, the Pocket Gardener! I live in the beautiful Allegheny Mountains in Western Maryland near Deep Creek Lake. My husband and I live in a house built in 1836 with our daughter and chocolate lab. I am a residential designer, podcaster, and gardener. In my free time you can find me propagating perennials, baking bread, or browsing through cookbooks for recipes and inspiration. Walking outside is my favorite form of exercise and if I don’t dance in my kitchen at least once a week then my priorities are clearly misaligned.

What started as a passion project of wanting to share tasty recipes, made with local ingredients, has developed into something I could have only dreamed of 2 years ago. I took a leap this Fall and have started a micro cut flower garden, and am looking forward to sharing beautiful blooms next Spring.

My first blog post, Tapas & Sunshine, gives a great intro for how this site began. I plan to continue to share my experiences with my own relationship with food, gardening, and place. While you’re here I hope you find some food inspiration, resources for local goods in Garrett County and gorgeous local seasonal flowers.

Cheers,
Maureen
