Stand up Paddle Boards on Deep Creek Lake!
Today I tried something new, Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP)! At the Deep Creek Lake State Park you can rent stand up paddle boards and kayaks through the Wisp Resort. Once you get your board, life vest and paddle you are free to go! Rentals are by the half hour or hour, and I’d say an hour is the perfect amount of time. Not knowing what to expect we were a bit nervous, but once we mastered getting up from our knees to standing and stabilizing ourselves, we were paddling off away from the beach!
The state park offers a great location for beginners or SUP aficionados. If you turn left you can go under a bridge (quite a fun challenge) and into a calm no wake zone cove, a great place to explore and calm waters! If you turn right you head out towards the main lake where you can challenge the waves and rougher water. As beginners we were a bit unsure of what to expect, but soon felt like we were looking like SUP superstars. It was a great way to spend the morning and work on our balance while exploring new areas of the lake!
